Marco Longhi MP visited the Priory Boxing Club again this week with the Leader of the Council, Patrick Harley to discuss plans for a new educational alternative provision unit.
Marco said “It was great to meet with Paul Gough again at the Priory Boxing Club, in the heart of Dudley. Over the years this club has delivered some real champs and helped individuals who may have otherwise struggled.
“There are many aspects to this club, including the importance of teaching teamwork and discipline. I felt a real sense of community belonging at the club.
“I want to see the club expand so it can assist more young people in Dudley.
Leader of the Council, Patrick Harley said “I very much see the need for an alternative provision free school in Dudley Borough. I look forward to working with Marco and the Priory Boxing Club to explore the possibility of a Priory Park Community School”
Paul Gough stated “Our club reaches out to all members of the community and teaches the importance of physical and mental health. We are very much a family unit and it is great to Marco, the local MP, assisting us with our project.”
“It has been great to meet Marco and for him to have a look at what we have done over our 30 years since opening and our plans for the future.
“Marco has also got the Leader of Council, Patrick Harley to see if he can help with our plans for opening our own PRU School because there are over 300 vulnerable children not in education in our Borough and we have worked with Wolverhampton PRU Schools for some years with great success.
“The pandemic is highlighting even more the need to support young people because of the mental health challenges brought about by isolation. Our provision will do this as well as provide structured learning.
“With the help of Marco Longhi MP and the Leader of the Council, Patrick Harley we can all work together to make Dudley a better place to live for all people.”
