Marco Longhi MP met with residents last Friday to discuss the state of bowling green on Priory Park. Due to local youths using the green as a football pitch it has destroyed the grass making it impossible to bowl on.
There is a football pitch next door, but it is severely waterlogged, which has resulted in the bowling green being misused.
Marco Longhi MP said “this is a community resource that needs protecting and refurbishment. Having spoken with residents on Friday I decided to meet with leader of the Council, Patrick Harley today to discuss what can be done to rectify this for residents.
“We agreed that the Council will replenish the grass, which will enable bowling to take place when the better weather comes along and Covid restrictions have changed. Moving forward to stop the use of the green for football the Council have agreed to look at the existing football pitch to see what improvements can be made. In addition, I have asked the Council to explore the feasibility of a higher fence to protect the green in the future.
Leader of the Council, Patrick Harley stated “It was good to meet with Marco this morning to see what can be done to get this bowling green up and running for the community. We will work together to ensure the green is repaired as well as exploring the options for the football pitch next-door. As a Community Council we want to play our part in supporting community groups such as these.
