The decision to place Birmingham and the Black Country into tier 3 will come as a disappointment to many, including myself. However, as we have seen recently with the surge in the number of people going into hospital – we must not forget how deadly this virus can be and how quickly it can spread.
We must avoid the NHS being overrun with Covid19 patients as this means others cannot be treated.
These restrictions are necessary, and I will be lobbying the government to increase its funding to support key industries on top of the £35million worth of support the Government has already committed to the borough.
I will continue to work closely with local business to support them during these troubling times. I am pleased gyms will be allowed to open, which I know will come as big relief to many not only because of the importance of maintaining physical health but also the benefits they provide to mental health.
