Zephaniah McLeod, 27, has been charged with the murder of Jacob Billington as well as seven counts of attempted murder after a number of stabbings in Birmingham on Sunday morning.
Marco Longhi MP stated, “There are some serious questions to be asked, including why the knifeman was able to conduct this horrific act for so long – leading to the tragic loss of life of Jacob Billington, and serious injuries to seven other individuals.
“A serious review of how this incident was handled by West Midlands Police is needed, but also what his background was, including the threat he posed to the public. I understand that he was released from prison in April to a halfway house in Dudley borough.
“This does highlight some of the challenges and complexities of certain released prisoners and the potential risk they may be to society, especially if probation controls are not in place and/or mental health issues are not correctly monitored.
“I have written to the Police and Crime Commissioner to ask for a full investigation - I think this is important for the victims and their families.”
