Marco Longhi MP has welcomed the recent announcement by Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of state for transport, about the poor performance on the West Midlands Trains network. They have failed to provide reliable and punctual service for commuters.
As a result of these failures they will be forced to spend £20 million to deliver a package of service improvements and compensate passengers for the poor performance they have suffered.
As part of this package passengers will be offered a 10% reduction in off-peak fares in July and August 2020, and the 3% season ticket discount announced in January will be extended to all season tickets renewals until 30 December this year.
Commenting, Marco Longhi MP said:
“I am delighted that my constituents will directly benefit from this announcement. As we push for a cleaner environment, we must have the transport services to support this vital transition.
“This bold move by this new Government highlights their commitment to improved public transport for all”
“I will work closely with Andy Street, the West Midlands Mayor, to ensure improvements are made rapidly including the recruitment of more drivers and conductors as well as timetable changes and improvements.”
