This evening, Marco Longhi MP was at the NEC in Birmingham for the Conservative and Unionist Party Leadership Hustings, and was proudly supporting candidate Elizabeth Truss.
Earlier today, Liz Truss said, "I will be a pro-business, pro-enterprise Prime Minister. This is fundamental to my vision for levelling up the country in a Conservative way. When the West Midlands succeeds, the country succeeds. That is why I am determined to get the engine that is the Midlands economy firing on all cylinders again."
Giving Liz his glowing endorsement, Marco said, "Liz understands the economics of growth. Just as high energy prices, inflation and the cost of living begin to bite, the last thing we need is higher taxes. Quite the opposite: we need lower taxes to stimulate investment, job creation and growth in the economy - all of which will bring more revenue to HM Treasury to pay for public services. We cannot tax ourselves into growth, the opposite will happen. If we want to support people during difficult times, it makes no sense to tax them more only to give some of it back: let them keep their own money in the first place!"
Party members have been voting since 1st August 2022 for the next Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party, and the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Voting closes on 2nd September 2022, with the results expected to be announced on 5th September 2022. It is then expected that HM The Queen will invite the winner of the contest to form a government in her name on 6th September 2022, at Balmoral Castle.
