Last week, Marco Longhi MP visited the recreated Elephant & Castle pub at Dudley's Black Country Living Museum to celebrate the efforts of those involved in the project. The Edwardian-era pub was once located on the corner of Stafford Street and Cannock Road, in Wolverhampton, before it was demolished over twenty years ago. The pub's return is thanks to the museum's £30 million expansion plans, as part of their Forging Ahead Project, to highlight the history of the Black Country.
The recreation has captured the pub during its life in the 1960s, and features a contemporary smoking room. Its 'elephant and castle' statue, which once stood proudly on the pub's exterior, was reproduced by local company, A Studio. The beautiful decorative tiles on the pub's exterior were developed by Bridgnorth company, Craven Dunhill.
Marco is excited for all the museum's visitors, new and returning, who, thanks to museum investment, will now be able to travel back in time in the museum's newest pub.
