Residents have been concerned about a proposed housing development for several months at Majors Fold greenfield site. The site is located off The Straits in Gornal. A local campaign by Marco and Bryn along with the support of residents, we have managed to stop housing on this site. Bryn made representations to Dudley Council planning committee with Marco’s support and local residents contributions which were invaluable.
Last year, Marco Longhi MP called a residents’ meeting regarding this planning proposal. This meeting was attended by more than a 100 residents including Councillor Challenor.
The decision was deferred to a site visit, which recently took place and the Council have now decided to refuse planning permission.
On the planning committee’s decision Marco said:
“This is great news and it is the right decision. I am grateful to Cllr Challenor for his local efforts. My approach towards housing development remains the same: ‘brownfield first’. There is no need to
build houses on our green spaces when there are ample brownfield sites. I’m delighted at the Council’s decision and it would be great if the Council were to formalise their position by adopting ‘brownfield first’ as a locally adopted policy too.”
Councillor Bryn Challenor said:
“Such great news for our community this evening, the development at Majors Fold on The Straits has been rejected by Dudley Councils Planning Committee. The result this evening shows that our residents voices have been heard, I have been behind each and every one of you from the start, with the belief like you that this development is totally misplaced with in our ward and against the Conservative councils remit of brownfield first, tonight was a victory for us all.”
